Trauma and Relationships

Trauma teaches us how to survive, but it often comes at the cost of connection.

You might be finding it hard to feel truly close to someone, or you might feel too close, too fast, in ways that end up hurting. Maybe you keep choosing partners who do not treat you well, or you feel trapped in a relationship that no longer feels safe or fulfilling. Perhaps you have left a relationship but feel lost, confused, or overwhelmed by grief, guilt, or self-doubt.

When these patterns show up again and again, it can start to feel like something is wrong with you.

But often, what is really happening is that unresolved trauma, often from childhood, has quietly shaped how you relate to yourself and others. Experiences like neglect and emotional abandonment can leave deep imprints that affect self-worth, boundaries, trust, and emotional safety.

You might find yourself people-pleasing, shutting down, avoiding conflict, or struggling to express your needs. You might long for closeness but feel overwhelmed when it arrives. These are not flaws, they are adaptations that once helped you cope.

The good news is that these patterns can shift.

In therapy, we gently explore the link between your past experiences and current relationship struggles. Through approaches like EMDR, hypnotherapy, CBT, psychodynamic, and schema, we help your nervous system release old wounds, build emotional regulation, and connect with your true self.

The goal is not just to stop repeating old patterns. It is  to help you feel safer in your body and your relationships, to reclaim your sense of self, and to move forward with greater confidence in yourself.

It is common to feel hesitant about starting therapy. You might worry about opening up, feel ashamed, or be afraid of reliving the past. You might wonder if things are really “bad enough,” or fear that therapy will not help. My role is to meet you wherever you are, at a pace that feels safe. Healing and change is possible, one step at a time.
